1902 March - Edna's Diaries

Saturday March 1, 1902 – At home doing housework. A bad day, snowing most of the day and blustery the rest. Worked on rug and Gingham cover.

Sunday March 2, 1902 – At home, not feeling very well. Stomach trouble. Went over to Franks for dinner, bad day.

Monday March 3, 1902 – Howard’s 29th birthday. Guess I’ll have to whip him. Washed and went over to Madyies in the afternoon. Up all night with Bertie’s ear ache.

Tuesday March 4, 1902 – Marv and Carrie Haines 5th anniversary to their wedding. Married on year more than we have been. Ironed and churned and baked bread, and was awful tired.

Wednesday March 5, 1902 – Father and Mother were here and Ma took dinner with us. They broke their buggy. We went up home with them in the afternoon and took rye and wheat and oats up to them. Nice day. Bertie has had the earache since Monday evening.

Thursday March 6, 1902 – Junk baby 1 month old today. They are going to call him Alvin Waine and call him Waine. I was sick with the sore throat. Didn’t do anything to amount to much all day. The boys butchered hogs today.

Friday March 7, 1902 – Still under the weather and worse than yesterday on the lounge most of the time. Tended meat to day.

Saturday March 8, 1902 – Foggy morning, but cleared up by dinner. Rendered up lard this forenoon and got about 8 gallons. Took 1 gallon up to Ma in the afternoon. Grandma Due was buried today.

Sunday March 9, 1902 – At home feeling much better but not well yet. Morning nasty and foggy.

Monday March 10, 1902 – Went up to Mother’s and kept house all day for her while they all went to the burg and got wallpaper for my bedroom and sitting room. Stayed all night at Mother’s. Bad day rained in the afternoon.

Tuesday March 11, 1902 – Came home and done up morning work and cleaned my spare bedroom. Then went up home in the afternoon and cut out my dress. Ma ordered her paper to day of (Nip Bair). Windy and rainy day.

Wednesday March 13, 1902 – Rained all night and all day. I done up housework, churned, and boiler sap all day.

Thursday March 13, 1902 – Nice day, went up to Ma’s in the afternoon and up to Mrs. Junks to get Moher from quilting quite a crowd there.

Friday March 14, 1902 – Stayed at home and cleaned and papered my bedroom. It looks awful nice. Tired tonight. Frank’s all here for supper and bread to mix.

Saturday March 15, 1902 – Windy and rainy forenoon. Turned off nice in the afternoon. Done up housework and baked bread. Went up to Ma’s after dinner.

Sunday March 16, 1902 – At home boiling sap. Just go through. Got 1 quart and over. It is nice. An awful mean day, wind blowing at the rate of 40 miles an hour. Churned and got quite a nice lot of butter.

Monday March 17, 1902 – Bad day. Stayed at home and did housework. Finished my rug and worked on my cushion.

Tuesday March 18, 1902 – Went over to Celia’s and helped paper her bedroom and kitchen. Almost finished. Nice day, warm and sunshiny.

Wednesday March 19, 1902 – Went up to Ma’s and went to quilt in the afternoon. Had the headache in the afternoon. Cold, windy day.

Thursday March 20, 1902 – Nice day, done general housework and went over to Madyies in the afternoon. Cleaned house. Mother and Celia finished the Society quilt.

Friday March 21, 1902 – Stayed at home and cleaned parlor and pantry. Nice warm day. Celia came over and helped me. Tired in the evening.

Sunday March 23, 1902 – All went up to Ma’s today and Howard and I went to church.

Monday March 24, 1902 – Stayed at home and washed and cleaned the hen house and boiled sap. Ironed some in the evening. Nice day.

Tuesday March 25, 1902 – Stayed at home and finished ironing. Cleaned the north room in the cellar, and went over to Will’s in the afternoon. Went over to Celia’s and helped move stove.

Wednesday March 26, 1902 – At home, a rainy day. Not doing anything but housework. Went up to Ma’s after dinner. Went to Lodge. Elected Chaplain.

Thursday March 27, 1902 – Stayed all night at Father’s and papered Ma’s sitting room. Came home 3 o’clock and awful tired. Nice day.

Friday March 28, 1902 – Stayed at home and churned, sewed, and made garden in the afternnon. Windy day.

Saturdy March 29, 1902 - At home having sick headache. Took sick 3 o’clock in the morning. Ma came out and did up my work. She went over in the afternoon and papered Madyies pantry. Howard commenced sowing oats today. Got 10 acres sewed. Finished my dress.

Easter Sunday March 30, 1902 – At home not feeling any better in the forenoon. But ate a good dinner so I am feeling much better just now. Cold, dreary day. Snowed.

Monday March 31, 1902 – Went over to Will’s and helped trim paper. Not feeling very good. Cold day.
